Security camera shows Air Canada’s near miss

Mercury News

May 2, 2018 / 00.39 min

Security camera footage shows the moment when an Air Canada plane nearly landed on four fully loaded airplanes lined up on a taxyway on July 7, 2017.

In the aftermath of this incident the National Transportation Safety Board found some issues with the flight crew (fatigue during the flight and that the first officer was twice rejected in his application for promotion) but also that another pilot landing at San Francisco International Airport that night, complained about construction lights, which were overly bright and therefore made it difficult to find the proper runway.

According to aviation experts this close call could have easily led to one of the worst aviation disasters in history, as the fully loaded planes were carrying upward of 1,000 passengers.
